What to Expect on Your Senior Session Day

Senior year is such a big milestone — and your portrait session should feel just as special.
At Optical Poetry, my goal is to create more than just pictures. I want you to walk away with artwork that celebrates you — your personality, your style, your story.
If you’ve booked your session (or you’re thinking about it), here’s what to expect on your big day so you feel relaxed, confident, and excited from start to finish.

1. A Warm Welcome & Final Touches
We’ll start by reviewing your outfits and accessories together. I’ll help fine-tune choices, making sure everything photographs beautifully and reflects your style. If you’ve booked hair and makeup, we’ll make sure you’re camera-ready with that final dusting of powder or lip gloss touch-up.
2. Location Magic
Whether we’re shooting in downtown McKinney’s historic square, golden fields at Myers Park, or an urban Dallas backdrop, every location is carefully chosen to fit your vibe. I’ll already have a plan for the best lighting spots and angles so you don’t have to worry about a thing.
3. Easy, Natural Posing
Most seniors tell me they’re a little nervous in front of the camera — totally normal! My job is to guide you with natural prompts and simple posing that makes you look confident without feeling stiff. Think movement, laughter, and those in-between moments that show your real personality.
4. Multiple Outfits & Looks
You’ll have time for several outfit changes, so bring options. We’ll capture a mix of casual, formal, and editorial-style looks so your final gallery feels like a true reflection of all sides of you.
5. Keeping It Fun & Stress-Free
The best portraits happen when you’re relaxed. I’ll play music, encourage breaks, and keep the energy light. Seniors often tell me they were surprised at how fun the session was — more like hanging out than a “photo shoot.”
6. Sunset Magic (My Secret Ingredient)
If you’ve seen my portfolio, you know I love golden-hour light. Whenever possible, we’ll time part of your session for that dreamy, cinematic glow that makes skin tones and colors look incredible.
7. The Big Reveal
About three days after your session, we’ll meet for your gallery reveal and ordering appointment. This is where the magic really comes to life — you’ll see your portraits polished, curated, and ready for choosing. From wall art to albums, I’ll guide you through selecting heirloom pieces that will last for generations.
Final Thoughts
Your senior session day isn’t just about photos — it’s about celebrating one of the most exciting chapters of your life. My job is to make the experience seamless, enjoyable, and unforgettable.
